Known as exact sciences (of which mathematics is the great model) has as its key feature to "measure" or better, the weight of its objects of study, what is being studied.
Consider, in mathematics, means assigning weights to certain variables to calculate the weighted average. It is, fundamentally, to measure, determine the quantity (not quality). However, how we measure things?
On very common in our daily life we use measures without even realizing it. To buy cold meat, flour or rice in a supermarket, for example, we use a standard unit of measure: the grass.
So when we ask for a kilogram of meat, we are referring to a multiple of grass, a grass many times over. To buy a piece of tape in the cabinet or at the bookstore, we use another unit of measurement, centimeters, which is a hundredth of a meter.Likewise, we measure time in seconds, minutes and hours.
Units of measurement There are different things that can be measured. All that can be measured mathematically is called greatness. But what measure?Measure is to compare a given quantity with another quantity, which was chosen as the unit of measure.
The man felt the need to standardize the units of measure for comparing the different quantities, even if at a distance, so do the trade (buying and selling) fair, or even to simulate situations and math. We always work with multiples or fractions of units of measurement.
Size and weight To measure the size or length, we use the meter as a unit, their multiples and sub:
For mass measurements, we used as unit per gram:
For area measurements, we use quadratic units (such as square meters). For example, the box would be below the standard model of the area measurement. This square has a total area of 1 cm2.Its length or base measuring 1 cm and its height 1cm. As the area is equal to the base multiplied by height, then: 1 cm x 1 cm = 1 cm2).
With this unit standard, you are able to measure the area of a sheet of typing paper, calculating how many squares fit on the sheet.
Since the volume measurements can be made in liters or cubic meters
The above is a small dice cm3 total. Base = 1cm, height = 1 cm and depth = 1cm. As the volume is equal to base x height x depth, then we have (1cm x 1cm x 1cm = 1 cm3). With this unit standard are you able to measure the volume of a box, calculating how many cubes can fit inside the box.
The liter, which is also a unit of measurement used to measure volume, also has multiple and sub:
